Health & Wellbeing
We all know that hot tubs provide unrivalled relaxation and blissful pleasure, but did you know that hot tubs offer a whole range of physical and mental health benefits? The healing effects of water can be seen to stretch back centuries. In many cultures, hot water healing is still commonly practised for spiritual, mindful and health reasons.Â
Â
Whether you are using an inflatable spa or a rigid hot tub the benefits are the same. Lay-Z-Spa's inflatable hot tub range actively promotes a healthy lifestyle and represents a significantly better value alternative to customers than traditional fixed hot tubs, spas and Jacuzzis on the market, without compromising on the health & wellbeing benefits.
Hot Tub Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a whole-body therapeutic treatment often prescribed for conditions such as arthritis, stress, headaches, diabetes, muscle and joint injuries, bursitis, tendonitis, scoliosis, fibromyalgia and is effective for treating long-lasting pain.
The warm 40°C water of a Lay-Z-Spa hot tub helps to stimulate the body and release endorphins, acting as a natural pain relief. Practical evidence demonstrates that the heat can help your blood vessels to open up and reduce blood pressure whilst the massage jets stimulate better circulation. The buoyancy of the water also helps to give the feeling of weightlessness and take pressure off joints and limbs.
Using a hot tub for hydrotherapy helps skin and muscles loosen and relax from the increased circulation of the warm water. The gentle massaging systems increase blood flow to injured areas, bringing much needed nutrients to help repair the damage. Lay-Z-Spa's powerful hydrojets are perfect for hydrotherapy sessions and many athletes now use this as part of their training recovery programmes.
For conditions such as arthritis, simply taking the pressure off joints in a hot tub can provide relief of symptoms and can increase the ability to perform daily tasks with more ease.

EXERCISE & SPORTS RECOVERY WITH HOT TUBS
Hydrotherapy is popular amongst athletes for recovery after training or competition and as part of a fitness routine. Whether you regularly go to the gym, run, cycle or take part in sporting activities, a hot tub can become an effective part of your fitness and training routine.
Using a hot tub after exercise and sport can offer multiple benefits in terms of recovery and general health. The heat of the water and massage systems on Lay-Z-Spa hot tubs enable rehabilitation of injured muscles as well as easing the pain of soreness.
Research demonstrates that hot water raises the body temperature which increases blood flow around the circulatory system, alleviating pain. This increased blood flow also helps to heal injured or damaged tissue and muscles. Lay-Z-Spa's massage systems help to release tension and actively knead your muscle fibres, helping the recovery process.
Sleep Therapy
We all know that a long hot bath is always the best cure for a good night’s sleep! Combine that warm water sensation with Lay-Z-Spa's soothing massage systems and you will find yourself in therapeutic hot tub heaven!
Sitting in a hot tub raises your body temperature and the weightlessness caused by the buoyancy of the water is deeply relaxing. Together, these create the right conditions for a deeper sleep. Studies also suggest that the drop in temperature your body encounters after coming out of your hot tub actively works towards inducing a deeper sleep.

ANXIETY & STRESS RELIEF
Hot tubs are great for mental health, relief from tension, disconnecting from troubles and helping with stress or anxiety. The combination of the 40°C water and soothing massage system induces calming sensations.
Relaxing in a hot tub gives an opportunity to momentarily distance yourself from technology, social media, work or education to clear your mind and unwind. Taking this time out is beneficial to improving your sense of wellbeing which will, in turn, help combat stress or anxiety.
Your Lay-Z-Spa's hot water helps create a balance in your nervous system and encourages your body’s release of natural feel-good hormones such as endorphins and dopamine resulting in feeling happier and relaxed. Additionally, the heat can help open up lung capacity for greater oxygen intake and has proven benefits to reducing risks of heart attack.
We recommend setting up your Lay-Z-Spa in a location where you can sit back, relax, distance yourself and are limited from distractions.
TYPE 2 DIABETES HOT TUB THERAPY
As well as relaxation, a Lay-Z-Spa inflatable hot tub offers therapeutic benefits to anyone diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This type of natural therapy comes at a low cost and from the comfort of your own home.
Several studies indicate that regular hot tub therapy, of up to 30 minutes a day, can help with type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar, normalising blood pressure, enhancing insulin sensitivity and increasing chances of weight loss. UK research tells us that a hot bath reduces peak blood sugar levels by 10% and increases energy expenditure levels by 80% burning 126 calories per hour. Combine a bath’s heat with our soothing massage systems and you’ll find a Lay-Z-Spa provides a range of benefits for type 2 diabetes sufferers.
Please be aware that a drop in blood sugar may not be immediately apparent, therefore, we would advise you exit your Lay-Z-Spa hot tub slowly and carefully. If you have any concerns about hot tub therapy for type 2 diabetes, please consult your doctor.

BOOSTING YOUR HEALTH WITH A HOT TUB
Hydrotherapy or spending time in your Lay‑Z‑Spa can offer a range of positive benefits that you may not be aware of.
A hot tub can help boost your immune system, increasing its efficiency, and helping to fight colds and illnesses. As your core temperature is raised, an increase in blood circulation and perspiration helps detox your body from impurities which has positive impacts on everything from muscle tone to better skin.
Spending as little as 15 minutes in a hot tub can also increase your metabolic rate and digestion as well as reduce water retention. This is particularly useful for anyone looking to lose weight or trying to combat cellulite.
HOT TUB EXERCISES
A Lay-Z-Spa hot tub is obviously the perfect place to relax but did you know you can use it for exercise? The buoyancy of the water makes a hot tub an ideal place to exercise for anyone with mobility issues or in recovery from muscle or joint strain. Low-impact hot tub exercise helps with cardiovascular health, flexibility, weight loss, muscle tone, flexibility and injury prevention.
Examples of low impact hot tub exercises include:
Core Exercise
Sit facing the centre of the hot tub gripping the sides with both hands. Raise your knees to your chest then fully extend them away from you. Make sure you keep your back straight and shoulders down.
Squats
Hold your arms out in front of you for balance and tilt your hips backwards as if you are seated position. Bend your knees slightly, as if sitting back, and pause halfway whilst contracting abdominal muscles.
Arm Exercise
Submerge your body and extend both arms out to the side with your palms facing down. Keeping them straight, bring your arms together and extend that out again. This works your chest, biceps, triceps and shoulders.
